Tired of looking tired? We can help.

If you are concerned about aging eyelids with excess skin or excess fat, you may be a candidate for blepharoplasty. Some of the most common issues resolved include:

  • Heavy, tired upper eyelids caused by aging skin or excess fat
  • Excess skin in the lower eyelid with wrinkles, bags, and dark circles
  • Malposition and protrusion of fat that can create contour irregularities, a bulge in the lower eyelid, or under-eye hollows (tear trough deformity)

What should I expect with eyelid surgery in Omaha?

This procedure can easily be done under local, oral or IV anesthesia. The end result is to give the eye a lighter, refreshed appearance, with scars virtually invisible, hidden within the natural eyelid crease.

Lower eyelids

Lower eyelid surgery may involve several techniques, reflecting your unique condition. Lower lid blepharoplasty may involve removing excess skin. It may also include manipulation of fat to restore a smooth lower eyelid and treat hollows and dark circles under the eyes. Incisions may be within the eyelid (transconjunctival) or hidden just beneath the lash line (subciliary). In some cases, tightening of a loose lower eyelid may be indicated. The surgery can be performed to improve the lower lid contour, and leave your eyes refreshed and appearing entirely natural, without visible scars. For some patients  we may use a laser treatment to tighten sagging under-eye skin.

Upper eyelids

When addressing the upper eyelid surgery, the procedure involves removing excess skin, and may conservatively address excess fat within the upper lid if your eyes have a tired, heavy look.

If the muscle structure is loosened, it may be subtly repositioned and tightened – every patient is different, and at Omaha Face, your eyelid surgery will be 100 percent customized.

What is recovery like after eyelid surgery?

Recovery can vary, depending on what your surgery entailed. Upper eyelid surgery will involve some minor swelling and bruising that mainly resolves within the first week. There may be mild residual swelling that can take longer to resolve but generally does not preclude returning to work or social events. Swelling and bruising may be slightly increased with lower eyelid surgery, particularly if the fat is manipulated. Placing an ice pack at intervals is helpful in reducing swelling. Sutures are removed one week after eyelid surgery in Lincoln.

Eyelid Surgery FAQ

What is the importance of a consultation with Dr. Harbison?

It is essential to have a thorough consultation before your eyelid surgery in Omaha, as there can be many underlying issues that, if not identified, may result in limited benefit or possible complications. Some examples of such issues include laxity of the lower lid tarsus (connective tissue), upper eyelid blepharoptosis (dysfunction of the upper eyelid elevators), and the presence of eyebrow ptosis (drooping). Also, a variety of aging changes can occur, and it is critical that your surgery is performed by an experienced, highly trained facial plastic surgeon.

At what age is eyelid surgery performed?

When the skin on the eyelids has become unsightly or bothersome, we can perform a custom eyelid surgery. Sagging eyelid skin can appear as early as during the 40s, unique to the individual genetic background of the person.
