The lips are a delicate area, and this fact can make some people hesitant to consider implants or fillers. Many people, however, are born with thin lips, which can be disheartening in our world of magazine covers and Instagram models. Some celebrities have even started publicly admitting that they receive lip fillers. If you are not interested in needing maintenance treatments every few months, however, a lip lift may be the right option for you.

What is a Lip Lift?
A lip lift can be used to create a more attractive upper lip by subtly raising its position. The overall effect of the lip lift is more youthful, defined and visible lips. In the right patient, a lip lift can make a big difference in the way one looks or smiles.
By the time we reach our 20s, the distance between our upper lip and the bottom of our nose starts to elongate. The longer this area becomes, the thinner your upper lip will appear. A lip lift corrects this form of aging to create a youthful appearance.
Who is a Candidate?
As we age, our lips lose their fullness and have the tendency to descend due to loss of structural support. Men and women who feel they have too much space between the base of the nose and the top of the upper lip or who desire fuller lips are candidates for this procedure. Lip lift is a permanent result that some prefer to the repeated need for lip filler injections.
What Does a Lip Lift Procedure Involve?
A lip lift can be done in our office under local anesthesia in about one hour. Dr Harbison will make a small incision along the base of the nose and remove a small amount of skin. Doing this will raise the position of the lips and increase the extent of pink that is visible in the upper lip. The incision is well hidden in the curves of the nose and great care is taken during this procedure to avoid scarring.
What is Recovery Like?
Mild swelling of the lips is expected for the week following the procedure. One week after the procedure, Dr Harbison will remove the stitches. Pain is minimal with this procedure and can be controlled with oral pain medications.
