What is Kybella? Does it work?

Kybella is the only non-surgical method approved by the FDA for the treatment of submental fullness or a double chin. In the past, this could only have been remedied through surgery or lipo, requiring some downtime. Kybella is a non-invasive treatment delivered through a series of carefully placed injections to treat excess fat under the chin. Upon injection, Kybella begins to break down unwanted fat cells by destroying the outer membrane so that they can be swept away by the body’s natural processes. The elasticity in your skin will cause your skin to contour your slimmer jawline as the fat cells slowly disappear.

Kybella’s active ingredient is deoxycholic acid. This naturally-occurring compound found in the body aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat cells. When Kybella contacts the fat cells below the jawline, the deoxycholic acid dissolves the outer barrier of fat cells, destroying the cell. This allows your body’s natural processes to sweep away the cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in volume under the chin. Once those fat cells are gone, they are gone for good!

What is the treatment?

Treatment with Kybella is performed in the comfort of our Omaha, NE office. Topical ice packs are applied to numb the area, and we will ensure you are comfortable during treatment. Next, the treatment area is marked with a temporary grid to aid in the precise placement of the injections. A small amount of Kybella is then injected into the subcutaneous fat in the indicated locations. Ice will once again be applied to the area following treatment to minimize discomfort.

Is there a recovery time?

Since treatment with Kybella is only minimally invasive, there is no downtime required following your procedure. You may immediately return to your usual activities. You may notice mild redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection sites. This should subside within a few days.

How many Kybella treatments will I need for a double chin?

At Omaha Aesthetics, we understand that each client is an individual with unique needs and goals, and tailor each procedure to those specific needs. The number of treatments required will largely be determined by your anatomy, amount of fat tissue, and individual response to the Kybella. We generally recommend a series of three to six treatments at one-month intervals to achieve the desired result.

How much does a Kybella cost?

Treatment with Kybella is based on the number of vials needed. The cost per vial at Omaha Aesthetics is $600/vial.
